In 1991, I heard well-known photojournalist, Ed Kashi speak about his long-term photographic stories that evolve over time, even years. This approach to photojournalism deeply inspired and appealed to me. After moving to Bursa, Türkiye in 2002, I took this idea and entered into what became a nine-year project of photographing a nearby village of Alevi people.

By doing this project I came to understand our common humanity and hope that this book will help others gain understanding of what life in the village was like during the years I photographed there.
